Informations about your geographical location:  Powys is a county in Wales with a rich history and culture. It is home to some of the most important historical buildings in the country, including Powis Castle, a 13th century castle with stunning gardens; Strata Florida Abbey, a 12th century Cistercian abbey; and the ruins of Cwmhir Abbey, a 12th century abbey. The county is also home to the Iron Age hillfort of Y Gaer, a site of great archaeological importance. Gastronomically, Powys is known for its traditional Welsh dishes such as cawl, a hearty stew made with lamb or beef; Welsh cakes, a type of griddle cake; and bara brith, a type of fruit bread. The county is also home to a variety of local cheeses, including Caerphilly, a semi-hard cheese made from cow's milk. The history of Powys dates back to the Iron Age, when the area was inhabited by the Celtic tribe of the Ordovices. The county was later conquered by the Romans and then by the Normans, who built many of the castles and abbeys that still stand today. Powys has a long and proud history, and its many historical sites and traditional dishes make it a great destination for visitors.
