It is home to some of the most important historical buildings in the country, such as Cardiff Castle, which dates back to the 11th century and is a symbol of the city's past. The National Museum Cardiff is also a must-see, with its impressive collection of art and artifacts from Wales' past. Other important historical buildings include the Llandaff Cathedral, St. John's Church, and the City Hall. Cardiff is also known for its delicious gastronomic specialties. Welsh cakes, cawl (a traditional stew), and laverbread (a seaweed dish) are all popular dishes in the city. Fish and chips are also a favorite, and the city is home to some of the best fish and chip shops in the country. The history of Cardiff is closely linked to its port, which has been a major trading hub since the Middle Ages. The city was also an important industrial center during the Industrial Revolution, and its docks were a major source of employment for the city's residents. Today, Cardiff is a vibrant and modern city, but its past is still evident in its architecture and culture.
